2024 LYRICS ARTS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP MUSIC COMPETITION

About the competition

The purpose of the LYRICS Arts Foundation Scholarship Music Competition is to support and encourage outstanding young musicians who demonstrate a serious commitment to music.  The competition will include two categories and 3 winners will be selected from each category. Students will apply through video audition, and scholarships will be awarded in this order: 

 

GRAND PRIZE - $1000

Per Category: 

1st Place - $350

2nd Place - $200

3rd Place - $100


ONE person will be chosen within the two categories for the Grand Prize Scholarship of $1,000. 


Current Submission Due Date: June 30th, 2024

Winners will be announced and notified within two weeks after the submission deadline.  

Eligibility

The Scholarship Competition is open to all qualified California students from K-12 as of June 30th, 2024.

Requirements

  • Completed application 
  • Personal Statement (500 words on a Google Doc) 
    • Make sure it is shared to anyone who has the link
  • Non-refundable $10 processing fee
  • One unedited video recording (5 min. max)

Rules and Guidelines

  • A student may enter for more than one instrument, but may not enter with the same instrument twice. (Each instrument competing would pay a separate entry fee) 
  • Decisions of the judges are final
  • Repeats in the repertoire are optional 
  • All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable 

Music Category Requirements

Details will be announced at a later date for the June Competition

Recording Guidelines

  • All audition recordings must be an unedited, single-camera video of the entire piece performed in one sitting. No edits of any kind (including changes in camera angle) are allowed.
  • Upload to YouTube.  
  • For strings/woodwinds/brass: piano accompaniment is preferred, but not required.
  • For piano: must be an acoustic piano, not electric keyboard
  • All works should be performed entirely from memory.
  • Dress code: Standard concert attire and shoes are required in the recordings
  • Ensure that all of your videos are horizontally recorded (if using a mobile device) 

Youtube Submission (Music Categories) Instructions

  • If you haven't created a channel before: 
    • Log in/Sign up for a YouTube account
    • Click on the profile icon
    • Click create a channel 
  • Click Upload Video
  • Name the title of your video with the piece name, movement number, and composer 
  • Select "Yes, it's made for kids" 
  • Keep clicking next until you get to the "Visibility" page
  • Select Unlisted before clicking save
  • Do not click off of the screen until the HD version of the video is uploaded
  • Hover over the video under Channel Content then click on details (pencil mark) 
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page, then click show more
  • Then scroll to License and Shorts sampling
    • ensure that these boxes have a check mark 
  • MAKE SURE TO CLICK SAVE
  • Do this for both videos and make sure they are in the same playlist
  • Click into your videos then copy/paste the individual links into the form provided in Categories
